Sermorelina

What is bupropion?
Bupropion is an atypical antidepressant classified as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI). It increases available levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain (especially in areas that control motivation, reward, and appetite) without significantly affecting serotonin — which is why it’s less likely to cause weight gain or sexual side effects compared to SSRIs.

How Does Bupropion Work?

  • Boosts Dopamine & Norepinephrine Blocks reuptake → more of these neurotransmitters stay active in key brain regions → improves motivation, focus, energy, and the ability to resist impulses.

  • Reduces Food Reward & Cravings Dampens the dopamine “hit” from high-calorie, palatable foods → makes junk food less appealing and reduces hedonic (pleasure-driven) eating.

  • Increases Metabolic Rate & Satiety Signals May mildly increase resting energy expenditure and enhance satiety signals in the hypothalamus → helps you feel satisfied with less food.

  • Supports Mood & Drive Without Sedation Stimulates the brain’s reward/motivation circuits → helps lift the “can’t get off the couch” feeling without the crash of stimulants.

Potential Benefits

1. Weight Management & Craving Control

  • Reduces cravings for carbs, sweets, and comfort foods

  • Less emotional/stress eating and reward-driven snacking

  • Supports 5–10% body weight loss over 6–12 months (especially strong when paired with naltrexone, diet, and exercise — as seen in Contrave trials)

  • Helps break through plateaus when lifestyle alone isn’t enough

2. Energy, Mood & Motivation Support

  • Improved daily energy and mental stamina without feeling overstimulated

  • Better motivation to exercise, meal prep, or stick to goals

  • Lift in mild depression, low drive, or “blah” feelings tied to chronic stress

  • Fewer side effects like sexual dysfunction or sedation (compared to SSRIs)

Many people notice easier appetite control and a subtle energy/mood lift within 2–6 weeks, with more consistent weight progress over 3–6 months when combined with lifestyle changes.

Off-label use for weight loss or metabolic support is not FDA-approved. Information here comes from clinical trials (especially Contrave studies), real-world use, and functional medicine experience.
